Celtic returned to winning ways domestically as we overcame a dogged and slick Falkirk side to win 2-0 thanks to goals from new Bhoy Thomas Cvancara and our top scorer Benjamin Nygren.
Truth be told it was something of a slog, and for periods of the game we looked out of shape, and a bit fatigued, which was understandable due to our European excursions on Thursday night, but worryingly we looked in parts like a team going through the motions, rather than a side challenging for a title.

On the positive front, it was pleasing to see Thomas Cvancara get off the mark, but it wasn’t just his goal, it was his all round game that impressed the supporters, and the big Czech could well be the missing link we’ve been desperately needing to fully complement our attack.
Another loan Bhoy Julian Araujo also impressed at right back, so much so that supporters are hoping he’s signed on a permanent just a month after signing from Bournemouth.

The Mexican international is as equally comfortable defensively as he is offensively, and if he keeps up this sort of form then Alistair Johnston will have a battle on his hands for the right back berth when he’s back to full fitness.
A special thanks should also be reserved for Kasper Schmeichel who produced two impressive saves, both at vital moments in the game. The first of which was simply outstanding as he tipped a goal bound header round the post. It was as important as it was impressive, as it denied Falkirk taking an early lead, although there may have been a reprieve from VAR as perhaps the Falkirk player was marginally offside.

Talking of offside, Celtic’s third goal was ruled out for offside – and checked by VAR too when Daizen Maeda was deemed to have been in an offside position. Yes, Daizen was admittedly in an offside position but ONLY BECAUSE HE WAS PUSHED INTO IT BY A FALKIRK DEFENDER.
The icing on the cake was the news that theRangers had dropped points at Easter Road, meaning we leapfrogged the Ibrox side into second place on goals scored. Second place is not to be celebrated, but it keeps us in touch and is a step in the right direction. Leaders Hearts have to go to Ibrox shortly so one or both of rivals will drop points.

On we go to Pittodrie on Wednesday, let’s hope for a much more assured display and maybe with a few new names in the Celtic squad.
