Celtic add £500k onto five million Auston Trusty bid…

Celtic had their £5m bid for Sheffield United’s American defender Auston Trusty knocked back earlier today but aren’t prepared to take no for an answer.

The Hoops have now increased the offer to £5.5m for the USA international who joined Sheffield United last summer from Arsenal in a £5m move as the club prepared for a season in the Premier League.

That didn’t go well and they were adrift at the foot of the table for most of the season before suffering relegation back to the Championship. Trusty has been on the subs bench for the early matches this season as transfer speculation surrounds the left-sided centre-back.

Trusty is an international team-mate of Cameron Carter-Vickers and of both strike up a successful partnership in the Hoops it will be great for Celtic and also their national side. Like Arne Engels, Trusty is reportedly keen on a move to Celtic as he eyes playing in the Champions League.

Meanwhile Celtic and Sheffield United are discussing a move for Mikey Johnston going the other way, with Celtic apparently being open to a lower than expected fee of just £2.5m for the international winger who proved last season at West Brom how effective he can be in the Championship.

And again like the Engels situation, this Auston Trusty deal is expected to go through ahead of Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Yesterday The Celtic Star spoke to SBI Soccer Editor Larry Henry Jr who gave us an insight into both Trusty and also Mateusz Bogusz who is also on Celtic’s radar this week.

Earlier today Celtic announced the signing of Barcelona left-back Alex Valle who joined the club on a season long loan deal.

If Celtic can get Valle, Engels, Trusty and Mateusz in by Friday night then this will be regarded as an exceptional window where the club at long last properly backed the manager and showed ambition to properly resource the squad to compete in the Champions League.
