Celtic have completed the signing of exciting South Korea international Oh Hyeon-gyu from Suwon Bluewings.
The 21-year-old has been on the Scottish champions’ radar for some time and requested a transfer four times before his club agreed to a reported £2.5m deal.
He has put pen to paper on a five-year deal in Glasgow, which is subject to international clearance.
“He is a young, talented striker with great attributes and someone who is ready to take the next stage in his career – a player who is hungry, eager to develop and to achieve success,” manager Ange Postecoglou said of the signing.
“I have watched Oh for some time and he is the striker I really wanted as I think he will be a great fit in our squad.
“Really importantly, I know that he had his heart set on joining us too and that his own perseverance has been crucial in making this deal happen, so his determination to join Celtic has been very clear.”
Oh enjoyed a breakout year in the K League in 2022 which saw him score 13 goals and win his first cap for his country.
However, the move does seem set to spell the end of last season’s top scorer Giorgos Giakoumakis’ time with the Hoops as the fan favourite closes in on a move to MLS with Atlanta United.
The striker is Celtic’s third South Korean player ever, following in the footsteps of Ki Seung-yeung and Cha-du ri.
