The Bhoys secured Engels from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg in August 2024, paying a club-record £11m after identifying the Belgian as a key addition for the future.
Engels received mixed reviews after joining Celtic, with one former top-flight player claiming he had not justified his transfer fee, while Peter Grant has labelled him a ‘Rolls-Royce’ in midfield.
The consensus has been cast around Engels being a promising and quality midfielder, despite being overlooked for Belgium’s World Cup squad, and he is a wanted man this summer.
The 22-year-old emerged as a target for West Ham, and most recently the Hammers made an offer for the Celtic star that was suggested to be ‘not too far away’ from the Scottish club’s valuation.

The jury is out on whether Celtic will keep hold of Engels, but they will be determined to get his full value if he does go.
Now it has been suggested that Celtic ‘are expecting’ a further bid from West Ham, despite the fact that the Hammers are unwilling to pay a price above their valuation of the Belgian midfielder.
The Irons, who are looking to rebuild their squad to be capable of securing immediate promotion back to the Premier League, will not want to stall the deal with multiple clubs keen on the player.
Roma showed interest in Engels and were suggested to be looking to ‘steal a march’ on rival clubs in the race for the Celtic midfielder, though nothing concrete has materialised.

The 22-year-old is also a subject of interest for Nottingham Forest, who have been long-time admirers of the Belgian.
However, West Ham received a significant windfall following the high-profile departures of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, which they could look to reinvest in the Celtic star.
It remains to be seen whether the Bhoys are able to get their desired price for Engels, should he leave this summer.
