QUEEN'S PARK…0
CELTIC…1
(Donovan 22)
Celtic FC B made it two wins from two to kick-start their Glasgow Cup campaign as they ran out 1-0 winners over Queen's Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Colby Donovan’s first-half strike was enough to seal the three points in what was a dominant performance from the young Celtic side.
After kicking off their Glasgow Cup campaign earlier this month with an impressive 3-0 win over rivals Rangers, the young Hoops entered matchday two of the competition looking for another victory.
Particularly coming off the back of a thrilling 4-3 comeback win against Gala Fairydean Rovers, the Bhoys had plenty of confidence as they headed into the game.
And that was evident to see throughout the performance with their dominance on the ball, enjoying the greatest share of possession and opportunities.
Coming down after spending several weeks with the first-team, Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata had a major role in the opening few chances of the game.
Working the ball down the left, Kelly floated the ball to the back post where the Irishman was waiting as he attempted to head the ball back across goal, but it was well saved by the goalkeeper.
Shortly after, the young forward came close once again. Digging the ball out from under his feet his strike appeared to be destined for the top corner before the goalkeeper tipped the ball round the post.
Just after the 20th-minute mark, the Hoops found a deserved breakthrough as Colby Donovan scored his first goal of the campaign.
After a well-worked move made its way to the defender, he picked his head up and struck a powerful low effort towards goal, which sailed into the back of the net.
The home side did have a handful of chances of their own as Josh Clarke was forced into a strong save from close range.
But throughout the 90 minutes, it was a dominant display, and that continued into the second half.
The Celts couldn’t add to the scoring, but Bruno Davidson and Lenny Agbaire were unfortunate not to add to the score line, having efforts well saved and cleared off the line.
Donovan’s first-half goal was ultimately enough to seal victory in Mount Florida, making it two wins from two in the Glasgow Cup as they head into the final game of the group stage against Partick Thistle next month.
Next up for the young Hoops though is a return to league action as they take on Berwick Rangers at the Excelsior Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
