In the aftermath of the capitulation in Linz, Callum McGregor has admitted he and his teammates deserved to exit the Champions League  at the playoff stage yet again. The Celtic skipper didn’t hold back on his post match analysis, as he admitted that the massive collapse was down to no-one else but himself and his fellow teammates.

Speaking to Prime the Celtic skipper was brutally honest in his assessment as he said: “We got what we deserved. We were passive all night. We actually looked scared to go and win the game. When you are 3-0 up in the tie it’s psychological.”

Callum also admitted we got away with were fortunate in the first leg, and our goals more or less papered over the cracks, and offered his apologies to the supporters. “To be honest, I didn’t think we were that good in the first leg either. We scored at good times and got away with it.”

He added: “We have to suck it up. We apologise to our supporters and the club because there’s no way we should lose that game. We can’t have any excuse and that’s on us.”

Callum said that the blame lies solely with him and his teammates, and challenged the players to bounce back from the major setback.

The Celtic captain continued with his assessment: “It’s as much on the players as anyone else. You can’t lose the game by this margin and start looking for excuses elsewhere

“We’ll now see what people are made of. We have to realise we’re playing at a big club and we have to bounce back.”

Honest words from the skipper, but he like everyone else needs to have a good look in the mirror, and ask why are consistently falling at this hurdle, as that’s now the second year in succession that we’ve failed badly at this stage.
