Celtic are reportedly considering using a new UEFA rule to include Callum Osmand in their Europa League squad.

Osmand, who was signed in the summer from Fulham, was not included in the UEFA squad by Brendan Rodgers. Although, there may be a chance that he’s included in the squad to face FC Midtjylland on Thursday.

UEFA have introduced a rule that will allow for a player that has a long term injury or illness to be replaced by another player for a period. This would apply to Celtic’s situation given the injury to central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. The USA Internationalist was spotted on crutches at Hampden after going under the knife for an Achilles injury sustained against Strum Graz.

The rule states that a long term injury is defined by an absence of more than sixty days and this will be confirmed by UEFA. Only one temporary replacement of an outfield player is permitted during the league phase, up to and including matchday 6 of each competition. This is planned to reduce strain on the squad prior to the January transfer window.

As reported by Celts Are Here, Celtic are considering utilising this rule in order to bring the talented Osmand into the squad.

UEFA would require vouching for the injury to CCV in order to satisfy the switch but given that he suffered an Achilles injury, that would not be difficult. Auston Trusty and Liam Scales have been solid and are expected to continue together given the absence to Carter-Vickers.

It remains to be seen as to whether Celtic will do this. There is an outstanding chance that Kelechi Iheanacho will be fit for the game having missed the win at Hampden through injury. Johnny Kenny is in the Celtic squad and he has been impressive in the last two games, netting three goals.
