Celtic Eyeing Move For This Denmark Centre-forward: Why He Would Be An Upgrade Over Idah

If a report from the Danish outlet Bold is believed to be true, Celtic are closing in on an £8m move for Kasper Dolberg. However, transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri has given a contradicting update, citing that there is no agreement yet between the Hoops and RSC Anderlecht, and the Scottish side, despite a strong interest, might face competition from Borussia Mönchengladbach for the striking ace.

The 27-year-old Denmark international spent his youth years at GFG Voel and Silkeborg IF back in his homeland before breaking into the latter’s first-team squad. Ajax scouted him extensively during his Silkeborg years and eventually snapped him up for €270,000. After an impressive Eredivisie stint, Dolberg plied his trade in France, having completed a €20.5m transfer to Nice.

Although the Danish ‘number 9’ netted 11 goals in his maiden Ligue 1 campaign, his lack of conversion up top in the following years resulted in successive loans to Sevilla and TSG Hoffenheim, after falling down the pecking order at Allianz Riviera. Those spells did not work out for him either, but a €5m move to Belgium in the summer of 2023 helped him revive his career.

An Upgrade Over Idah In The Celtic Attack

Dolberg has so far netted 44 times in 95 appearances for the Belgian outfit, and the Purple & White won’t let their prized asset depart for cheap. The rumoured fee would see them make a significant profit on the amount they paid for him a couple of years ago, and Celtic, actively searching for a centre-forward, should step up the hunt to get the deal done ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash.

Meanwhile, Adam Idah has already completed his medicals and agreed on personal terms with Swansea City over a £7m transfer. But the Celts have not given the green light yet, as they would rather wait for the Dolberg deal to go through first.

Idah completed a £9m switch last summer from Norwich City after impressing on loan for the second half of the 2023-24 season. He netted 20 times last campaign in 53 appearances across competitions, but has lacked the impact so far this term while spearheading the attack.

After the fans’ backlash in their dismal Champions League playoff defeat against Kazakh side Kairat Almaty, the board have switched gears in the final few days of the summer window and wrapped up deals for Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Marcelo Saracchi. Dolberg will be a statement signing from the Scottish champions, who must now focus on a deep Europa League run.
