Celtic fans won't like Oh Hyeon-gyu's bold message for the club

Goals have not been an issue for Celtic despite the departure of Kyogo in the middle of the season. The Hoops have continued to find the back of the net consistently, thanks to Daizen Maeda's impressive form in front of goal. Adam Idah has chipped in as well. But still, many are of the belief that the Hoops need to add another striker to their ranks in the summer.

They could do with someone like Oh Hyeon-gyu right now. The South Korean international is proving that he has the ability to score consistently, even when being used as an impact sub.

Oh joined Genk in the summer and has made only five starts so far this season. But according to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 690 minutes of football in the ongoing 24/25 campaign.

Oh seems to be motivated to show Celtic how much he has grown. The South Korean striker has made it clear that he wants to come up against the Hoops in the Champions League.

The striker has made his motivation known, having not gotten many chances at Celtic. As reported by Glasgow World, Oh said:

"If I got to the Champions League next season, I want to see Celtic. Not that I did well when I was at Celtic. I want to show Celtic ‘I’ve grown this much’. Especially at Celtic Park, Celtic’s home stadium, I want to prove my ability.“That’s the biggest motivation for me. It is great confidence to score double-digit points in Europe. Honestly, I don’t think I got many opportunities. It seems that what I have always done sincerely in any situation has led to good results."

To be fair to Oh, it is true that he did not get consistent chances while at Celtic. He would go on short goalscoring runs but soon find himself out of the team again.

For strikers, it is important to find some sort of rhythm. Oh was not given that opportunity while at Celtic. Of course, that does not mean that he is getting enough playing time at Genk. But he is making the most of whatever he is getting, as he is scoring a goal every 57.5 minutes this season.

It remains to be seen if Genk and Celtic end up facing each other in the Champions League next season. Both will need to book their place first.
