Celtic are reportedly interested in signing USA Internationalist Tanner Tessmann. The Venezia midfielder helped guide his side to promotion to Serie A but is now being linked with a move to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his side ahead of the new season.

Celtic are currently in the USA as part of their pre-season preparations, which include games against DC United, Man City and Chelsea. A defensive midfielder is likely on the manager’s shopping list as he looks to have another option in the number 6 role to offer support to skipper Callum McGregor.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio,  Inter Milan have pulled out of a deal for the midfielder but Brendan’s side are looking at the £7m midfielder. However, they face competition from Premier League side Brentford along with other Serie A outfits. Inter Milan had agreed a deal with the Serie B club but Tessmann’s representatives rejected their advances, meaning that there was no move to join Simone Inzaghi at the San Siro.

The Alabama-born defensive midfielder was signed by Venezia at the beginning of 2022 in a deal from FC Dallas. Since arriving. Tessmann has made 99 appearances in both Serie A and Serie B, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 5 occasions. Tessmann will captain a US side at the Paris Olympics, which would allow for fans to catch sight of the player.

Celtic are working towards a deal for Paulo Bernardo as they look to secure the Portuguese midfielder on a permanent basis. The 23-year-old is close to agreeing a switch back to Paradise €4m from Benfica with the club and the player’s representatives in negotiations over personal terms.
