Kieran Devlin has dropped an update on Ange Postecoglou’s reported Celtic transfer target Zinedine Ferhat.

What’s the talk?

In a recent Q&A on The Athletic, the Celtic correspondent suggested that, while he is aware of the reports linking the Bhoys with a move for the Nimes forward, he has been unable to verify whether or not there is any truth to the rumours that the Hoops have offered the 28-year-old a pre-contract deal.

However, the journalist continued to state that, with the 56-year-old Celtic manager currently having the options of Tom Rogic, David Turnbull, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley in attacking midfield, he would be surprised if the Greek-Australian manager is indeed pursuing a deal for the Algeria international.

Speaking about the Bhoys’ reported interest in Ferhat, Devlin said: “I’ve seen the reports but not been able to verify it. Personally, I’d be surprised by it, to be honest, if the reports are true, given he’d presumably be competition for Rogic, Turnbull, O’Riley and Hatate. You’d think that’s Celtic’s strongest area of the pitch now!”

Fans will be gutted

Considering just how exciting a player Ferhat quite clearly is, Devlin’s update suggesting that the Hoops look unlikely to make a move for the versatile winger this summer is sure to have left many of the Parkhead faithful gutted.

Indeed, in a recent poll ran by Football FanCast, the vast majority of Celtic supporters revealed that they believed the 28-year-old would make a fantastic addition to Postecoglou’s current options in attack, both out wide and in attacking midfield.

It is not difficult to see why supporters feel this way, as, over the £4.05m-rated forward’s 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, Ferhat was in remarkable form for Nimes, scoring six goals, registering ten assists and creating nine big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average 1.9 shots and making 1.6 key passes per game.

Big Fat Celtic Quiz of 2021 - can you get 100%? Question 1. How many managers have Celtic had in 2021?

One Two Three Four

These returns saw the £13k-per-week winger who Adam White claimed would be “one of the better players in the SPFL” earn an extremely impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.07, ranking him as his club’s best performer in the top-flight of French football last time out.

As such, the suggestion that Celtic may not have made a move for Ferhat is sure to come as a gutting blow for many fans of the Hoops, as it is quite clear that the Algerian’s signing would represent yet another remarkable piece of business by Postecoglou – particularly on a free transfer.
