Celtic are being linked with a sensational move to re-sign Kyogo Furuhashi in January. The Japanese striker only departed Glasgow’s East End at the end of January but it has emerged that the Celtic have noted an interest in the player after a sluggish start to life in Birmingham.
Kyogo, who has been to Rennes and Birmingham City since leaving Celtic, is yet to score in the EFL Championship and with Chris Davies’ side sitting 14th in the Championship, there have been suggestions that Kyogo could be free to leave as the US ownership group, fronted by Tom Brady, want instant results.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are eager to re-sign the 30-year-old. It is claimed that Celtic wanted to re-sign the player in the summer as the club sought to replace Kyogo.
It remains to be seen whether the club will go down this route beyond registering an interest. It is clear that the club are in turmoil in terms of a number of factors but they know that they require to hit the ground running with recruitment in January.

After Brendan’s first season, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Pep Guardiola’s Man City were considering the Japanese striker with a fee of £15m suggested for the player. No move came to fruition but a number of links followed, suggesting that the player was keen on an exit.
This move was forthcoming in January as Kyogo left after Celtic secured passage to the UEFA Champions League knockouts with a tense 1-0 win over Young Boys. Kyogo was unlucky not to find his name on the scoresheet that night but was at his menacing best.
Rennes promised to get Kyogo playing in a top five league but he struggled for game time and has been deemed surplus to requirements. The Japanese forward made the move to try to break into the Japan FA first team; however, the move to Rennes did not pan out nor has the switch to Birmingham.
