The Dutch side held out for a £6m fee, but Celtic were unsurprisingly unwilling to match their valuation. Van Hintum explained that the difference between Celtic’s offer and the £6m asking price was “too big.”
Breum—who represents Denmark at under-21 level—was frustrated by the collapse of the move, though Van Hintum believes he will still play an influential role for Go Ahead Eagles this season.
Speaking to Dutch outlet Oost regarding Breum’s potential transfer to Celtic, Go Ahead Eagles’ technical director said: “No, that transfer wasn’t close.”

“The amount we asked for was very realistic and in line with the market, especially considering how things went with Oliver Antman.
“Of course, Jakob was disappointed, but he handled it fantastically. I expect him to shine again this season.”
Go Ahead Eagles sporting director Jan Willem van Dop openly criticised the way Celtic conducted their transfer dealings over the summer when attempting to negotiate the Breum move.
He indicated—embarrassingly for the Celtic board—that Celtic’s approach in the transfer market should mirror that of theRangers, citing the quick signing of Oliver Antman by the Ibrox club.

It was yet another example of lowballing from the club hierarchy and something supporters have now become tired watching.
