As we head towards the summer transfer window, the hope is that Celtic are able to come out of it stronger than they entered it. For that to happen, two things will be very important. The first would be making the right additions to the squad. The second would be to make sure that the core of the team remains intact.
One player who has established himself as an even more integral part of Celtic's team this season is Daizen Maeda. The Japanese forward has always been important for the Hoops.
In the past, he was highly regarded for his never-ending energy and the ability to press throughout the 90 minutes. But this season, he has been scoring with incredible consistency as well. Maeda has 28 goals to his name already in the 24/25 campaign despite having played the majority of it as a winger.
Naturally, Maeda has been linked with a move away. There has been speculation about a move to Tottenham Hotspur to reunite with Ange Postecoglou. And surely other teams will be interested as well. On the other hand, Celtic appear to have their own plans to keep him at Parkhead for the foreseeable future.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are set to offer Maeda a new contract amid growing interest in the Japanese international. The Hoops are keen to agree on an extended deal with improved terms. He is happy at Parkhead, and is fully settled in Glasgow with his family.
That being said, he left Celtic fans worried with his recent comments. When asked if he would be at Parkhead 'for the long term', Maeda said:
"Well, I am not sure, that’s a difficult question."While I am here, I always want to fight and play for Celtic."I want to keep focusing and playing for the team."
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Maeda. Celtic fans will be hoping that he remains at the club for as long as possible.
Hopefully, the experiences of some of his former teammates will convince Maeda to stay at Celtic. The likes of Kyogo and Matt O'Riley have quickly found out that the grass is not greener on the other side while Jota returned after just 18 months.
