Celtic have recalled Dane Murray from his loan at Queen’s Park. The 21-year-old made 20 appearances for the Spiders and impressed with his fine defensive displays.
Murray will now rejoin Celtic’s first team as he looks to supplement Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales with Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki expected to be available to move on.
Queen’s Park Director of Football Darren O’Donnell was full of praise for Murray when speaking to their club website as he returns to Paradise.
“It was great to have Dane with us for the first half of the season and it ensured we had cover due to the unfortunate long term injury of Charlie Fox. Celtic have now recalled Dane and we wish him all the very best for the future.”
The recall of Murray is expected to facilitate a loan move for Stephen Welsh to KV Mechelen. The central defender is looking to play regular first team football, which he’s not been able to get so far this year at Celtic. Welsh has made two appearances this season and will look to use his loan to showcase his talents not only to Celtic but also to potential suitors.
Queen’s Park has been a fruitful place for Celtic to send loan players in recent seasons and should continue to be an outlet if the opportunity suits both players. The opportunity to play Championship football and work under Callum Davidson at a Glasgow club appears to be excellent for players to develop and it is clear that Brendan is keeping an eye on the club’s talents that are out on loan.
