Martin O'Neill is recovering after a small hospital procedure, Celtic said in a statement that envisaged he could be released in the next day or two, thanked supporters for their kind wishes and requested privacy.
The Northern Irishman, 74, a Nottingham Forest legend, signed a one-year deal in June to become Celtic's permanent manager after two interim spells last season.
Those stints ended in a William Hill Premiership and Scottish Gas Scottish Cup double.
He was in the dugout for the 1-0 win over Dundee in the William Hill Premiership opener at Parkhead on Monday night.
Celtic visit Kilmarnock on Sunday.
