Celtic are reportedly closing in on an co-operation agreement with East Kilbride. The deal, which allows for Celtic to send young Scottish players to the lower leagues, could follow the announcement of a similar agreement with Dumbarton.
According to The Herald, Celtic are nearing their second agreement to help develop their youngsters by striking a deal with East Kilbride.
It is reported that Celtic are keen to get an agreement in place with EK as they have been impressed by Mick Kennedy’s style, which aligns with the type of football that players will be expected to play at Celtic. Kennedy is assisted by ex-Celtic youngster Si Ferry, who many will know from his media work with Open Goal.
Premiership teams can enter co-operation agreements with clubs in the Championship, League One, and League Two, allowing them to send up to three Scottish players aged 21 or under. It is reported that there are a number of players that could potentially shift to EK for the new season in order to gain valuable minutes.
Kennedy and Ferry have fostered an attractive style of football with the League Two Winners, impressing by bringing youth through in their promotion charge. During pre-season, EK dominated Premiership side St Mirren and were 3-0 up only for Craig McLeish’s team to mount an impressive and unlikely rescue mission to win 4-3.
