Celtic set to overtake Scotland’s self-appointed Coefficient Kings

Wednesday night’s impressive win over LASK has not only allowed Celtic to put one foot in the money laden Champions League group stages, it’s also put us on the brink of topping the country’s frequently highlighted co-efficient table.

The coefficient table has been the source of comfort for our Glasgow rivals for quite some time now, with the Bears regularly bleating on about how they prop the league up when it comes to European coefficient points.

The brutal reality is that they have only added generously to the points tally, due to playing regularly in Europe’s second tier competition over the past five seasons.

That’s in contrast to Celtic who have been competing in the more prestigious and competitive elite champions League group stages more often than not during that period.

Four out of the last six years to be exact, playing against the top sides from Germany, Spain, England, and Italy. That’s in sharp contrast to the latest Ibrox club who have regularly been pitted against the ‘lesser’ talented sides on the continent.

Last campaign was a poor one for us in the Europa, but we still managed to add to the coefficient by beating the likes of Feyenoord and Stuttgart away, whilst also registering an impressive draw in Bologna.

The Ibrox club on the other hand had a shockingly poor campaign in the same tournament after losing their Champions League qualifier 9-1 on aggregate to Club Brugge.

The Ibrox club have now dropped into the qualifiers for Europe’s third tier Conference League, alongside Hearts, which is a massive blow to the country’s much talked about Coefficient Kings.

Celtic however now have the chance on Tuesday night to keep the Scottish flag flying in the coefficient charts by qualifying for European football’s premier competition the Champions league, and hand yet another massive blow to the Ibrox supporters.

Their Coefficient Bragging Rights Cup was the only real crumb of comfort they could cling onto having repeatedly failed in their attempts to win any real silverware on a regular basis as Celtic has won 14 titles in 15 seasons, only failing during the COVID pandemic.

Now Celtic are on the cusp of taking away their imaginary Coefficient Cup from them on Tuesday night. All they’ll be left with is that Celtic hasn’t won a knockout tie since beating Barcelona in 2004. Oh how that hurts.

Did they ever beat Barcelona?

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
