Key Celtic star misses training ahead of LASK clash with an upset stomach…

We’ve already been dealt a blow with the news that Alistair Johnston has been ruled out for up to six weeks due to a hamstring injury, but ahead of tomorrow nights clash with LASK, yet another player has gave Martin O’Neill a major concern heading into the tie that could be worth upwards of £40 million for the club.

Celtic players took part in a training session at Celtic Park ahead of flying out for tomorrow’s return leg, and there was one notable absentee from the group of players being put through their paces ahead of the trip to Austria.

Rather worryingly for supporters, the man missing from training ahead of the flight to Austria was influential centre back Auston Trusty.

Several outlets reported on this news, noting that it would be a major blow if the American International sits out tomorrow nights clash, as it will be a night that our defence will be tested to the fullest.

However speaking at his pre-match media conference in Linz Martin O’Neill confirmed that Trusty had travelled with the party for the champions League Playoff second leg and reckoned that he’d be fine to play after having been suffering this morning with an upset stomach.

To be without the experience and ability of the former Arsenal, and Sheffield United man, would be a major blow, especially since he’s a key player on these sort of occasions.

The American has proved in the past that he’s a man for the ‘backs to wall’ occasions, with it being evident that he’s much more competent in these fixtures, than a run of the mill domestic game were he has next to nothing to do.

Liam Scales is of course ready to step in, and he too is just as experienced at this level, but still to be without a key player such as Auston Trusty would represent a major blow.

Whether Martin O’Neill opts to play Trusty if he’s not fully fit or go with the reliable Liam Scales is something we’ll not find out until the teams are announced tomorrow evening.
