Celtic star to appear as Sports Centre guest host on Canadian TV

Alistair Johnston is preparing to take on a new challenge off the pitch tonight, with the Canadian set to make an TV appearance as a guest host in his homeland ahead of his return to the pitch…

The 27-year-old has been out of action since last year after sustaining a significant hamstring injury and is still in the recovery phase.

While he has yet to be given the green light to play, he has been included in Jesse Marsch’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia, remaining involved with the group as they build towards the World Cup on home soil.

Meanwhile, Canadian broadcaster TSN has confirmed Johnston will serve as a guest host on Friday’s edition of SportsCentre.

Reflecting on the opportunity in a recent interview, Johnston said via Instagram: “I’m super excited, and I can’t wait to go through some highlights and read the teleprompter, which apparently is more difficult than it seems!

“I can’t wait to share that moment with the country from coast to coast, so I’m really looking forward to it. There is nowhere to hide on live TV, let’s just say that much.

“On a football pitch, you can kind of get away with it, but with this, im going to have to make sure I bring my A-game. I think I’ve got this up my sleeve, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Alistair Johnston added: “There is a lot of pressure, but I’ve got some pretty good people to look up to. James Duthie, a good family friend, has been giving me some good tips along the way, so hopefully he’ll keep me in good stead here, as I make my debut.”

“I think the whole [Canada] team will be watching in the meal room at 6 pm – the rumours have spread like wildfire!”
