We live in an era that has a fascination for sporting stats, and another set that was recently released makes for interesting reading for Celtic supporters and this one that no doubt will make the conspiracy theorists go weak at the knees.
As well as being top of the table as the best team in the country, we also seem to top the table when it comes to yellow cards per foul committed. It might seem to someone looking in from the outside that we are dealt with leniency when it comes to the crime count in the top flight, but as always nothing is ever as it seems.

Any Celtic supporter or anyone who regularly watches our games will know that the biggest percentage of those fouls are committed at the other end of the park, the area Celtic happen to be attacking.
Not every foul is a yellow card and in most of these case they aren’t even a foul as our opponents have a habit of falling to the ground whenever in contact with a Celtic player, it’s a tactic most managers in our league undoubtedly instruct their players to do.
This from the comments on The Celtic Star yesterday…
‘The referee on Saturday was a disaster! He quite simply needs to learn the rules of the game again, or needs to understand his job is to apply them fairly. The free kick he gave against Johnston when the opponent dived with Johnston fully two feet away, and the ref only four feet away himself, was really quite embarrassing for him! It showed his intent as a referee. As for the linesman’s part in this, he was looking straight along the line and could also see the other angle. So between the two of them, they had no excuse. They saw this from two distinct perfect angles, yet still gave St. Mirren a free kick.’

For the conspiracy theorists I ask you this, Celtic enjoy the majority of the possession in every single domestic fixture yet we regularly receive the most fouls against in a game? Something doesn’t quite add up.
We are not a dirty team, far from it, hence we don’t receive lots of cautions or red cards. Other sides in this country should take note and concentrate on playing the game the right way.
