Celtic face Aberdeen this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership. The Scottish Champions have endured four consecutive defeats in Wilfried Nancy’s first four games, leading to intense speculation about the Frenchman’s future at the club.
Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen are unbeaten in seven games domestically and will be full of confidence, especially given Celtic’s poor form of late under Nancy. The squad are desperately in need of reinforcements in January but it remains to be seen if the club will back Nancy given the woeful start.
Celtic are without Kelechi Iheanacho, Marcelo Saracchi, Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Callum Osmand and Jota.
Nancy has thus far budged from his preferred formation and it is expected that he will continue in his 3-4-3 formation.
Kasper Schmeichel will start in goals.
A back three of Tony Ralston, Auston Trusty and Kieran Tierney is expected to start against the Dons.
Daizen Maeda will likely start out left with Yang on the right with Paulo Bernardo and Callum McGregor in the central pairing.
Shin Yamada may merit a start given some bright moments but it is likely that Johnny Kenny will start with Reo Harate and Benjamin Nygren behind the striker.
There is a feeling that Nancy will not recover from a further defeat but hopefully a win against Aberdeen will help revitalise Celtic’s season. It is clear from the period that Martin O’Neill oversaw that the players are able to grind out results and that is what the squad need to do at this time.
