The SFA have confirmed the refereeing team for this weekend’s Scottish Premiership meeting between Celtic and Motherwell. The Scottish Champions return to league duty after securing their place in the Scottish Cup Semi Final after a win over Rangers at Ibrox.

Just two weeks after taking charge of the league meeting between Celtic and Rangers at Ibrox, experienced referee John Beaton has been handed the whistle for the game on Saturday.

The 44-year-old will be assured by Graeme Stewart and Calum Spence.

Meanwhile, at Clydesdale House, Kevin Clancy will be on VAR with Gary Hilland assisting.

Celtic’s game against Hibs last month saw refereeing decisions came into the spotlight with Auston Trusty being shown red by VAR then the officials denying Liam Scales a penalty for obstruction in the Hibs box. The Edinburgh side went onto win the game, offering a helping hand to their city rivals in the pursuit of the title in doing so. There can be no slip ups from Celtic in the last nine games, they need to be perfect and hope that Hearts concede ground. The visitors on Saturday will prove to be a stern test for MON’s squad.

Motherwell beat Celtic in December, winning 2-0 at Fir Park as Jens Berthel Askou’s side embarrassed Wilfried Nancy’s team. The Dane has impressed with the ‘Well, losing just four games this season.

Beaton has been behind some controversial decisions refereeing Celtic this season but awarded a penalty to Martin O’Neill’s side at Ibrox after a Sterling handball denied Daizen Maeda an equaliser. Reo Hatate scored as Celtic made it 2-2 to secure a well-earned point for Celtic.
