Celtic’s European hopes took a major hit on Thursday, when they suffered a 4-1 loss at home to Stuttgart in the first leg of their Europa League knockout playoff tie.

In contrast, their domestic form has been strong, with the team currently unbeaten in six league games, taking five wins and one draw over that run.

They sit third in the Premiership on 54 points from 26 matches (17 wins, 3 draws, 6 defeats), six points adrift of leaders Hearts but with two games in hand that could yet close the gap.

Martin O’Neill’s side will again have to manage without several important squad members because of injury. Defenders Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers, along with Arne Engels, Callum Osmand and Jota, are all still out and unavailable for selection.

After the heavy defeat to Stuttgart, interim boss O’Neill is expected to freshen up his starting XI.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who recently came off the bench to score a dramatic late winner against Livingston, is pushing hard for a place in the lineup from the start.

Marcelo Saracchi and Yang Hyun-Jun, both of whom have been sidelined with hamstring problems, are also thought to be in contention to feature from kick-off.
