Young Celtic goalkeeper Josh Clarke has today joined Partick Thistle on a season long loan, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

The 20 year old rose to prominence at Glenavon in the Irish League, having been the product of Chelsea and Bournemouth’s academies, respectively. After impressing in Lurgan, Clarke caught the eye of Celtic scouts and made the switch to Parkhead in 2022, where he was soon selected for the B team in the Lowland League.

Over the past three years, the player has featured for Airdrieonians as an emergency loanee, in August 2023, and he made 22 appearances at Ayr United too.

Now at a more senior age in the professional game, Clarke needs to establish himself as a keeper. He goes to Maryhill, with a chance to get further game time in the Scottish Championship and work under former Celt Mark Wilson.

Thistle Head Coach Wilson told the club’s website:

“We’re very pleased to bring Josh to the club – he’s a young, hungry goalkeeper who’s already had a taste of Championship football and is keen to play more.

“We came up against him at the back end of last season and you could see that he’s an assured and confident player who has plenty of potential so I’m excited to work with him this season.”
