In making his Germany debut against Serbia, Celtic’s Mika Baur became the 1,000th player to represent the German national team. Speaking to ZDF post-match, the 22-year-old reflected on his maiden cap.
“It still felt surreal even after the final whistle,” he said. “My pulse was high, but then it was fine as soon as I stepped onto the pitch.” Reflecting on the team’s 2-0 victory over Serbia, Baur added: “The team was truly incredible from the first to the last minute.
“Especially those attributes we discussed: the counter-pressing and being tenacious – and combined with fantastic players in the team who can play amazing football, I think today [the performance] was a highlight for everyone.”
Praising his debutant, Jürgen Klopp raved about the 22-year-old. “We’ve really seen now that he’s a wonderful footballer,” he explained. “To succeed there [in the Scottish Premiership] with his physical attributes and put himself through that, that’s really something special.”
