As you know Celtic will play theRangers in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals. Although the game will be at Ibrox, the BBC seemed to think Celtic are at home! (see below)…

In fact, Celtic have twice played Rangers at Ibrox with the Bhoys as the official home team: 1940 and 1971.

During World War Two, crowds were limited at games, based on a percentage of capacity.

Celtic played Rangers in January 1940. As Ibrox held more, it was agreed to play the game there to allow more to attend. But Celtic were the ‘home’ team!

In 1971, Celtic Park was being renovated to build the main stand. Celtic drew Rangers in the League Cup – but Celtic Park was not ready. Despite Rangers protests, the match was played at Ibrox. And again the Celts were at ‘home’!

If the Bhoys need positive omens, they lost neither of those games, drawing 1-1 in 1940 and winning 2-0 in 1971. And in the case of 1971, it meant the Bhoys won three times at Ibrox in only a month (winning twice in the League Cup and Glasgow Cup too).

Similar outcomes would be good this time. C’mon Celtic!

Turbulent times in Paradise

Well still turbulent times in Paradise. I know how often in the past we have scored late goals, but that one this morning (Aotearoa time) was really leaving it late!

Another insipid performance. Hatate looks as if he is wearing lead boots. We were so passive. Dundee should have had the game won before we got into added time. When Tierney stopped that one on the line I thought to myself that Dundee were going to regret it.

Wish it hadn’t taken just as long as it did to score though. Two goals in two minutes in the 94th and 96th minutes would have saved all that Extra Time. Too early to judge the new arrivals, although Araújo looks the real deal.

I came across the attached photo when I was looking for something else. Certainly different times but thought it was apposite in view of the present day boycott issue.

The Celtic End when terracing was still the order of the day. However the Board’s failings were obvious then too!

It would take a few years, but the slogan on the boys’ banner at least came true. Wonder how many people in the photo are still going to the games now?
