In an exclusive interview with La Provence, Cengiz Ünder (25) has stated that he wants to remain at Olympique de Marseille beyond the end of the season.
L’Équipe linked the Turkish international with a departure from the Vélodrome in an article published last week. The former Leicester City man is reportedly one of many players that Les Phocéens are looking to offload this season. Leonardo Balerdi, Pape Gueye and Mattéo Guendouzi are also reportedly on this list.
Ünder, who signed from AS Roma in the summer for just over €8m after a season-long loan at Marseille, has been an important arm in Les Phocéens’ attack this season. With Dmitry Payet now playing a more peripheral role, Ünder has played 40 times in all competitions, scoring four goals and registering six assists.
However, Ünder’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, which subsequently raises questions surrounding his contract at the club. In his interview with local publication La Provence, the Marseille winger has sought to quash rumours linking him with a departure.
“This summer? Honestly, It’s not a topic. I feel good here. I want to finish the season, qualify us for the Champions League and stay at Marseille. I am an important element of the team and I want to continue at OM. My only objective this summer is to go on holiday! And then to come back to Marseille. Leaving isn’t worth considering,” said Ünder.
