César Peixoto has been appointed as Wolverhampton’s new head coach, marking his first job outside Portugal.
He replaces Rob Edwards on a two-year agreement, which is subject only to a work permit in England. The club is one where Jorge Mendes holds significant influence.
Peixoto leaves Gil Vicente after a strong campaign, having led the side to sixth in the Portuguese league.
He had been linked with Benfica amid talk that José Mourinho could move to Real Madrid. According to Glorioso 1904, he was not among Rui Costa’s targets.
In his first comments, he said he is proud to join a big, historic English club, called it a major opportunity, and said he would do everything to return Wolves to the Premier League.
He also outlined a demanding, high-intensity identity for his teams and cited Portuguese influences. Wolves enter this new phase after relegation from the Premier League last season.
