Cesar Peixoto has been appointed Wolves head coach on a two-year contract, replacing Rob Edwards who was sacked last week. At his unveiling he outlined what supporters should expect from his side.
According to Molineux.news, the Old Gold turned to Jorge Mendes to help facilitate the move after Guo Guangchang lost faith in Edwards to take Wolves forward. The manner of the exit has not been well received, and any impact on players remains to be seen.
Peixoto is early in his managerial career yet has already held nine jobs. He recently impressed by guiding Gil Vicente to sixth in the Primeira Liga.
He told fans he wants to build a team capable of fighting for promotion to the Premier League. The new head coach will need to make a fast start.
Executive chairman Nathan Shi said the appointment brings the qualities the club wanted, citing clear identity, strong leadership and a hunger to succeed, and he praised Peixoto’s mentality, work ethic and readiness for the challenge. He believes supporters will get behind the decision.
The mood is positive, but results will decide. Wolves are taking a risk with a coach lacking Championship experience after dismissing one who had it and was popular with the players.
