Senegalese winger Assane Diao, a player for Italian club Como 1907, is on the verge of returning to the pitch after a long absence of nearly seven months, due to a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

In an interview with DAZN following his team's impressive 2-0 victory over Juventus, Spanish coach Cesc Fàbregas provided reassuring news about the situation of the 20-year-old Senegalese forward, who is now close to making his much-anticipated return.

Fàbregas admits a mistake regarding Diao's call-up

The Como 1907 manager admitted he had made a mistake by including Assane Diao in the squad list for the match against Juventus, even though the player had not yet resumed full team training.

"We pushed a bit; he hadn't trained with us yet but it shows how important he is for our team," Fàbregas stated.

The former Spanish international then added: “We want him back quickly. He hasn't trained a single day with the team, he's been out for 6-7 months, so you can understand how important this player is: winning even without him is significant.”

And he concluded: “But starting Tuesday, he'll resume training with the squad and we'll gradually reintegrate him."
