AD Ceuta and UD Las Palmas players, along with the match officials, stood still for the opening minute of their Liga 2 fixture. Marca reported it was a coordinated protest.

Before kick-off, both teams wore protest shirts. The home side, including Yann Bodiger's team-mates, carried a message that Ceuta was not for sale and would defend itself.

It was AD Ceuta's second game of the season and their first at home since an attempt by nearly 60,000 people to reach the Spanish territory.

Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the African mainland, is experiencing a politically difficult period.

In the Alfonso Murube stands, home supporters chanted against Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, whom many locals blame as they say they feel abandoned. Hundreds of Spanish flags were also raised.
