Harry Kane is heading into the new Champions League season with a clear mission. After being eliminated in the semifinals by Paris Saint-Germain last season, he hopes FC Bayern will go all the way to the title this time around. The 33-year-old is convinced that the Munich team isn’t far from claiming the European crown.

Last season, Vincent Kompany’s team didn’t go any further than the semifinals. The German record champions were defeated by PSG, who went on to win the Champions League.

For Kane, however, that was no proof that Bayern is far from Europe’s absolute elite. Quite the contrary.

“We’re really close. I think last year it was just a minor setback to be eliminated by a team that had won the Champions League two years in a row. That’s no disgrace,” the forward told TNT Sports.

Kane sees a clear mission for the new season stemming from the narrow defeat. The Bayern star isn’t willing to settle for another deep run in the Champions League.

“We have to find a way.”

„We’re going into this season with the goal of making it our year. We have to find a way to make it happen,“ Kane made unequivocally clear.

The Englishman knows from personal experience that small details can make all the difference on the road to the Champions League trophy. Quality alone isn’t always enough in the decisive knockout matches.

“In the Champions League, it’s not just about being the best team. Sometimes you also need a bit of luck at the right moment,” Kane explained.

For Bayern, the Champions League is once again one of the major goals this season. Statistically speaking, the record champions are among the top favorites. The Opta supercomputer currently gives the Munich team a 19.9 percent chance of winning the title. Only Arsenal FC is rated slightly higher, at 21.2 percent.

For Kane, winning the title would also mark another milestone in his career. Despite his domestic successes with Bayern, the striker has yet to win a major international club title.

Kane wants to keep playing at the highest level for a long time to come

Despite his age, the 33-year-old isn’t thinking about retiring anytime soon. Instead, Kane wants to savor his remaining time at the highest level for as long as possible.

“I want to play at the highest level for as long as possible, and of course I know that at Bayern I’ll be competing for titles every year, including the Champions League,” emphasized the captain of the English national team.

Kane also continues to have big ambitions with England. “I still have goals I want to achieve at the club level and internationally. It’s simply a matter of making the most of this moment for as long as possible.”

The forward has recently demonstrated in impressive fashion that he can continue to perform at the highest level. Last season, Kane scored a total of 73 goals for FC Bayern and the English national team combined.

Now his focus is on the next big challenge. On Thursday, the new Champions League season kicks off for Munich against Bodø/Glimt.

For Kane, this is merely the first step on a long journey. The Bayern star has already made it clear where that journey is headed: the Champions League title.
