Barcelona will take on Greek giants Olympiakos on Tuesday night in the early kick-off in the Champions League. With the Blaugrana focus firmly on El Clasico, and a number of injuries to contend with, the ingredients are certainly there for an entertaining game at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys at Montjuic.
In addition, it will see Spanish manager Jose Luis Mendilibar return to Barcelona, a team he has faced on many occasions, but rarely with such great resources.
Not an easy question to answer, given Barcelona’s injury issues. Currently, the Blaugrana have seven injuries in their first team, including Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Joan Garcia in goal.
That means that Wojciech Szczesny will start in goal, behind a back four that has been rotated often. Jules Kounde seems likely to remain at right-back as he searches for form. Alejandro Balde returned from injury before the break, and Hansi Flick may want him at 100% for their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, meaning Gerard Martin could be on the opposite side.

In the middle, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia seem likely to be Barcelona’s starting back two against Real Madrid, so expect one of Ronald Araujo or Andreas Christensen to come into the side. Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Marc Casado and Marc Bernal are the totality of Barcelona’s options in the midfield two.
Pedri will likely be taken off in the second half, but he tends to start. Ahead of them, Fermin Lopez is coming back to fitness, but will have to be eased back in, while Ferran Torres is expected to be fit, and Raphinha could make the bench. Lamine Yamal is back in action, while Marcus Rashford is in fine form.
Barcelona Predicted Line-Up: Szczesny; Kounde, Christensen, Eric Garcia, Martin; de Jong, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermin, Rashford; Ferran Torres
In order to get to the game, Olympiakos fans will have to go through the club in order to find tickets in the away end. For those looking to enjoy the game from anywhere in the stadium, it is still possible to head to the club website in order to get tickets. Alternatively, Live Football Tickets is a sound alternative, providing customer support and more information about where you might be sitting in the stadium, as the Barcelona website only provides sections.
There have not been many recent meetings between the two sides, with the last game coming in 2017, in the Champions League group stages. That was a 0-0 draw in Piraeus, with Luis Enrique’s side held in what was heralded as a Herculean effort. The return fixture saw Barcelona win 3-1 at Camp Nou, with Lionel Messi and Lucas Digne on the scoresheet, in spite of a Gerard Piqué red card in the 42nd minute.
Mendilibar has something of a fraught record against Barcelona, winning just once in 27 meetings with Osasuna back in 2012. He has managed three draws with Real Valladolid and Eibar twice, also taking charge of Alaves and Sevilla against the Catalans.
