Champions League preview: FC Bayern vs Club Brugge

Article image:Champions League preview: FC Bayern vs Club Brugge

FC Bayern München are looking to continue their win-streak this season against Belgian side Club Brugge in the Champions League. With a perfect start so far in all competitions, Bayern will aim to carry that momentum into this home tie and reinforce their status as one of the favourites in this season's Champions League campaign. Meanwhile, Club Brugge arrive in Munich full of belief after strong domestic form and an impressive European outing so far.

Bayern have had a great week: not only did they beat their fiercest rivals, Borussia Dortmund, on the weekend to cement themselves at the top of the Bundesliga, they were also able to secure coach Vincent Kompany's services with a new contract until 2029!

Everybody seems to be quite happy at the club and nobody sees their momentum going down in the Champions League, even though Club Brugge have already caused an upset this season against Monaco:

While Bayern have won their two opening games against Chelsea and Pafos, Club Brugge have lost against Atalanta and won against Monaco - in convincing fahsion as well! 4-1 was the final result in the end!

Coach Nicky Hayen has put together a really exciting young team, full of players a Bundesliga enthusiast might recognize: Nicolò Tresoldi (ex-Hanover), sta rplayer Christos Tzolis (ex-Düsseldorf), Ludovit Reis (ex-HSV) and Hugo Siquet (ex-Freiburg).

Tzolis meanwhile is looking forward to a return to Germany:

“It's great to be back in Germany after two years, especially in this fantastic stadium [Allianz Arena]. We'll see what we can do here. It will be difficult, but we are a strong team, too. We played good matches last season in the Champions League. We're confident. We'll have to be compact and confident on the ball. Maybe we can be dangerous on the counter and maybe even score first. And then defend well. This [FC Bayern] is one of the best teams in Europe. It will be difficult, they've already won eleven games in a row. This is a dream club for everyone, even for me when I was younger. I'm looking forward to the match.”

Bayern Munich are feared again - nationally and internationally. It currently seems like they are the team to beat - and that's exactly what they've been working towards in the past weeks.

If they want to return to the top of the Champions League table, they'll need to beat Club Brugge with a five-goal-difference - but since it's just matchday 3, the clear plan is to just win the game without looking at any goal difference.

With Gladbach, currently one of the weakest teams in the Bundesliga form wise, being Bayern's following opponent on the weekend, the Bavarians could easily put out their best squad without having to rotate the squad too much.

That being said, Kompany will have to once again replace the in-form Serge Gnabry, since he's not fit enough to play just yet. Raphael Guerreiro however, will most likely be able to make his comeback.
