Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor said that UEFA Women’s Champions League success is still the club’s main goal after watching her side complete the domestic treble with a 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley this afternoon.

The Blues completed the domestic season unbeaten with a relatively straight-forward victory over The Red Devils at the national stadium. Sandy Baltimore netted a brace while Catarina Macário was also on target for the South West Londoners.

Reflecting on the victory in the post-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that it felt good to win the treble and that it was the perfect way to end the season.

“The feelings are great,” Bompastor said. “It’s sometimes difficult to describe them in words but it feels really great. This season has been tough but when you’ve been able to achieve a domestic treble and be as dominant as we’ve been, you have to really enjoy that. All of the credit goes to my players because they performed really well again today.

“We had a strong performance in which we showed our mentality, our values. To be able to end the season in almost a perfect scenario; winning at Wembley when the stadium was sold out with a strong performance, a strong result against a strong opponent [was good]. It was the ideal way to end the season.”

It was Baltimore who starred for The Blues with the player scoring twice and providing an assist. Bompastor is pleased with how the player has settled in the English game.

She said “It’s difficult to mention one player in the whole season. To achieve the treble, you have to have team performances throughout the season.

“Sandy has been incredible, especially when the team have been performing well. It is always easier for an individual to perform when the team are doing well. Sandy has had an incredible first season in England, she has adapted quickly in the team and in the league. She has had a big impact in our results and performances this season.”

Bompastor will not rest until Chelsea win the UEFA Women’s Champions League and she again emphasised the club’s desire to achieve that ultimate goal.

She said “I have already started to reflect on the season and think about the future. This season, we’ve been dominant in England but we need to make sure that we are going in the right direction to ensure that we are competing with the best teams in Europe.

“We are super-happy to have achieved a treble but we didn’t win the Champions League which was also one of our goals. When we talk about our ambitions, we are super-happy to enjoy the treble but the people on the pitch were already mentioning that we were missing the Champions League. That’s who we are, that’s the goal and I totally respect that because I wanted to come to Chelsea and make sure that we are all able to win the Champions League with the club. We have that ambition and we need to go in the right direction to be able to do that and achieve that goal.”

Chelsea have ended the domestic season as treble winners for just the second time in their history.
