Championship clubs have voted against introducing a video review system next season, a move many Wolves supporters are likely to welcome.

According to BBC Sport, the consultation on Football Video Support ended in a firm rejection, closing the proposal for the foreseeable future.

VAR will continue in the Premier League, but after their relegation Wolves will play without the technology next season. The club submitted a resolution to scrap VAR in summer 2024.

That bid failed when the other 19 Premier League clubs voted to retain it. Frequent interventions, delays and reversals had already fuelled frustration among fans.

FVS was a streamlined alternative requiring fewer resources and giving each team two reviews per match.

After feedback was canvassed, the response was overwhelmingly to keep things as they are, with no desire to introduce the system.

VAR is used in the second tiers in Spain, Italy and Germany, yet English football has chosen a different path for now.

Wolves’ irritations are well known, from Andre Onana colliding with Sasa Kalajdzic to Hwang Hee-chan having a goal ruled out for minimal contact on Matheus Cunha against Bournemouth.

For many, the absence of VAR in the Championship should bring a welcome release, with goals celebrated without the familiar pause.
