CHAN 2024: Spotlight on the opening match Tanzania vs Burkina Faso
CHAN 2024 finally kicks off this Saturday, August 2, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, featuring a highly anticipated clash: Tanzania vs Burkina Faso.
For this group B opener, the Taifa Stars will play at home, buoyed by a crowd firmly behind them. A vibrant opening ceremony will precede kick-off, marking the start of this historic tournament co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
This will be the second meeting between the two nations this year. Their last encounter was at the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar in January 2025, where Burkina Faso claimed a 2-0 victory. Tanzania will be eager to turn the tables this time, backed by the passion of their home fans. They will rely on several local standouts: Aishi Manula (goalkeeper – Simba SC), Dickson Job, Hussein Mohamed, Clement Mzize (Young Africans), and Feisal Salum (Azam FC), the midfield maestro.
On the other side, Burkina Faso aims to defy expectations. Coach Issa Balboné is resolute:
We have drawn strength from previous tournaments. We've corrected our mistakes and our goal is clear: to advance past the group stage.
