Just before the Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern, a surprising decision by the Parisian authorities has caused a great deal of displeasure. On Monday afternoon, the Paris Prefecture of Police issued a general decree imposing considerable restrictions on Bayern fans travelling to Paris – just one day before the match at the Parc des Princes.
As officially announced by FC Bayern, the club was only informed of the measure today and subsequently lodged a protest at the UEFA meeting. Paris Saint-Germain is also supporting the record champions in this matter.
The order states that all FC Bayern fan buses must assemble at a tollbooth outside Paris before the match before being escorted onwards by the police. In addition, all other Bayern fans are to travel exclusively by public transport. At the end of the match, they must return to the same means of transport before the coaches are finally allowed to leave the city in the early hours of the morning – probably not before 5am.
FC Bayern finds this procedure unacceptable. The club sharply criticised the decision in an official statement: „For FC Bayern, not least the short notice of the order is unacceptable, as in this case, as with all games of the German record champions, all decisive information has been transparently available for weeks.“
Munich also emphasised that there was no change in the risk situation – neither among its own supporters nor compared to the last guest appearance in Paris in 2023.
It is worth noting that hosts Paris Saint-Germain are also backing Bayern and consider the short-term ban to be disproportionate. According to Bayern, both clubs are in close dialogue with UEFA in order to find a solution at short notice.
FC Bayern announced that, in addition to the UEFA protest, it would also examine further legal steps to protect its own fans and ensure fair treatment.
An explosive Champions League evening – long before kick-off on the pitch.
