Wolves have lost one of their most devoted supporters, with Charlie Daw passing away aged 66. The lifelong fan followed the club with an extraordinary run of 1,986 consecutive matches.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, a tribute was held at half time of the Bournemouth fixture last Saturday, reflecting the respect Daw inspired among fellow fans.
Daw first watched Wolves against Bury in 1967. His remarkable sequence began with a 4-1 defeat at Bolton in Division Three in 1985 and, excluding the Covid stadium closures, ran through to the 1-1 draw at Everton on January 7th.
In the previous decade he had missed only seven matches, mainly while attending the World Speedway Finals. His overall Wolves attendance reached 2,576.
Fellow diehard Peter Abbott, who has missed only one game in almost 50 years, regarded Daw as the number one for dedication and said he was always smiling.
Away from football he loved horseracing, visiting all 59 UK racecourses with his partner Jo, whom he met at the bookies and was with for 21 years. He captained the darts team at the Moreton Arms and ran the Wednesday night Tettenhall Darts League, which will continue in his memory.
Daw’s family includes his children Joanne and Robert, Jo’s children Liz, Thomas, Harry and Lucy, and six grandchildren, with another due in April. Jo held a season ticket next to him at Molineux for about 15 years.
