Charlotte FC stormed into the home of their rivals, Atlanta United, and snatched all three points with a solid performance away from home.
The loss was Atlanta’s fifth straight at home, a record they had never reached in club history before Sunday afternoon.
Scorers: Almada 35′, Silva 77′ ; Williams 40′(OG), Abada 56, 68′
For the third straight time in the fixture, the away side earned all three points between burgeoning rivals Atlanta United and Charlotte as Dean Smith’s side won to move 9 points clear of the Five Stripes.
It began quite alright for Atlanta as Thiago Almada opened the scoring from close-range, but a controversial equalizer went the away of the visitors when a Derrick Williams own-goal appeared to just cross the line.
Charlotte took over from there and snatched a two-goal lead thanks to a quick brace from Liel Abada.
While Xande Silva pulled one back for the hosts in the final 15 minutes, it was too-little, too-late and Atlanta suffered a fifth consecutive home defeat.
