Charlton Athletic beat Preston North End 1-0 at The Valley to make it three wins from three and climb top of the Championship.

Millenic Alli came on at half-time and soon after the restart Delano Burgzorg forced Arthur Okonkwo into a low stop. In the 56th minute Karlan Ahearne-Grant swept in from Alli's cross for the decisive moment.

Preston threatened from corners around the hour mark but clear chances were scarce, and Okonkwo was rarely troubled after that.

Alli remained lively late on, drawing a save from Daniel Iversen as Charlton Athletic managed the closing stages.

Nathaniel Chalobah and Miles Leaburn were both withdrawn because of injury.

Charlton Athletic registered 15 attempts and 57.2% possession. Preston mustered 12 attempts and hit the target once.
