Charlton Athletic's season isn't over yet, with the Addicks set to enter the League One play-offs as strong contenders for promotion.

It has been a very good season for Nathan Jones' side, and they were close to the automatics before being beaten by Wrexham, so the mood is high at The Valley right now.

Ahead of the summer, there are going to be plenty of teams vying to sign their players, and Charlton fans will all have a player who they would most like to keep going into next season.

After a very positive campaign, there are quite a few names to choose from.

The majority of fans may choose young talent

We spoke with FLW's Charlton fan pundit, Sam White, on who he wants to see stay at The Valley next season and not be sold this summer.

"I think most fans will say Thierry Small just because of his contract situation. I think obviously he's a very good player but he has a lot of learning and a lot of stepping up to do. He is more about potential, considering he is 20 years old," White told FLW.

"I think the biggest one would be someone like Lloyd Jones who has really come into his own this season and really proved himself as one of the best in the league as a centre back.

"Yes, he's signed another contract but if Charlton don't get promoted then there are going to be so many Championship teams, and relegated to League One teams who are going to look at Jones and say that he is one of the best in the league. And I think it will be hard for Jones to turn that down."

Keeping Lloyd Jones would be a statement of ambition

With a whole host of clubs expected to try and sign Jones this summer, if he was to stay at Charlton, it would show that the club is going in a positive direction and is able to keep its best players.

For a number of years now, many of the Addicks' best talent has moved onto greener pastures, with the club often being seen as a stepping stone for young players especially.

Sam White told FLW that regardless of the league that they are in, they need to "show ambition" this summer.

"We really need to show ambition with the recruitment side, regardless of what league we find ourselves in next year. We need to be bold in recruiting players who can be on Jones' level if not higher as well as really have a plan of where we want to be in the next season or two."

If Jones stays, then it would be a statement of intent that Charlton's days of being a selling club could be over.
