Cole Palmer captained Chelsea for the first time on Saturday, and after the game the attacker had a cheeky response when asked about the honour:
“It was a long time coming,” Palmer said to the club’s official website.
“It was a proud moment being captain. I enjoyed it and it was a good afternoon.”
“We needed to win. It was a difficult four games [before the international break] but to get to a semi-final at Wembley was very important,” Palmer said of the heavy win over lower league opposition.
“It’s nice to see everyone getting involved [with the goals] and laughing, joking and smiling after the game,” Palmer said after a rout which had seven different goalscorers.
“I think it will give everyone a lift. Playing, winning and scoring goals is good for everyone. Getting back to that winning feeling was nice and hopefully we can take that on to Manchester City.”
That’s what really matters – a big win at the weekend will soon be forgotten if we can’t follow it up on Sunday.
Enzo Fernandez could still sign a new contract at Chelsea, despite the rising tensions that have led to him being excluded from the squad.
After the win on Saturday, Liam Rosenior praised Cole Palmer’s performance, in particular his work ethic.
