According to a recent report by Calcio Mercato, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be among a host of top European clubs keeping tabs on PSV prodigy Mohamed Ihattaren, with the likes of Manchester City, Inter Milan and Ajax all interested in the youngster’s signature. The report suggests that the player’s current contract at PSV runs until the end of the 2022 league season, and it has been clarified that his agent – Mino Raiola, knows that now isn’t the right time to sell him.
It has been suggested that all the clubs mentioned above have sent scouts to watch the youngster’s progress on multiple occasions. Ihattaren is already regarded to be one of the most dangerous attackers in the Eredivisie as well. It is claimed in the report that the attacker would be best described as a balanced mix between Ronaldinho and Hakim Ziyech and that he’s already convinced everyone in Holland of his quality and future potential.
Since Frank Lampard’s takeover at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have been undergoing what can only be classed as a revolution. Players like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James and Billy Gilmour have become absolute fan-favourites around West London.
In the meantime, the familiar faces of Willian, Pedro and Michy Batshuayi have now slowly been eased out of the picture. Although Lampard is bound to target some source of experience, it’s likely that most of his summer signings will be promising young players.
The 18-year-old is widely considered to be a phenomenon in the football world, owing largely to the fact that he’s one of the most confident dribblers in the game. Capable of beating even the most intimidating of defenders using his pace and trickery, Ihattaren would be one of the most exciting talents to come into the Premier League in recent years if Chelsea can get this done. The PSV man boasts a belter of a left foot, which he uses to pick out long-range passes into space with absolute ease and conviction.
Like former Chelsea man Eden Hazard in his playing style, the youngster has the quality and composure required to tear teams apart on his own, while it must be conceded that he’s not half bad at build-up play. The PSV ace likes to operate out of a central role just in behind the striker but is just as effective while playing down the touch-line. The trickster’s finishing and passing attributes are also improving by the day, which means that his scope for development could skyrocket upon joining a relatively ‘big’ club like Chelsea.
When Chelsea got the signing of Eden Hazard done all those years ago, not many people expected him quite to hit the heights that he eventually did. Ihattaren has all the attributes required to be the Blues’ next Eden Hazard, as finding a replacement for the Belgian speedster was never going to be an easy task.
Having been compared to Hakim Ziyech, watching Ihattaren playing alongside the Moroccan could be quite the sight, and Lampard will do superbly well to get this deal over the line by the end of the summer.
