  • Manchester City have reportedly struck an agreement with Chelsea on a financial settlement for Enzo Maresca.
  • The Italian manager is now free to join the Etihad Stadium as their new manager, believed to be set for a three-year contract.
  • Reports from Italy suggested Chelsea and Man City have agreed on a fee around €20 million for the 46-year-old.

Emerging reports from Italian media have revealed Chelsea and Manchester City have reached an agreement over a compensation package for the move of Enzo Maresca.

Maresca’s transition into the Manchester City dugout had seemingly transformed from what had been expected to be a seamless succession strategy into a multi-million-pound legal standoff with Chelsea.

Following Pep Guardiola’s departure after 10 years and 20 trophies at the club, Etihad Stadium officials earmarked the Catalan’s former assistant coach as their premier target for the vacancy, verbally agreeing on a three-year agreement back in May.

However, an official announcement was heavily delayed by Chelsea, as the London club demanded compensation and reportedly threatened a Premier League complaint for an alleged “illegal approach”.

Now, a breakthrough clears Enzo Maresca to assume control at Manchester City in time for pre-season, allowing him to integrate marquee arrivals – with Elliot Anderson a No.1 transfer target – before the tour of Asia, the Community Shield against Arsenal, or the Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
