Chelsea announce signing of United States international ace Thompson | OneFootball

Chelsea have completed the signing of United States international forward Alyssa Thompson on a five-year deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.

The 22-year-old joins Chelsea from American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Angel City. She has spent the last two-and-a-half years with the club after completing her college career. Thompson has got well over 50 NWSL appearances under her belt.

On the international stage, Thompson has been capped by the United States on 22 occasions while she has scored three goals for her country. She was previously a CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship winner with The Stars and Stripes.

After joining Chelsea, Thompson said “Chelsea is such an amazing club, one of the best in the world. Being able to play with players that are the best in the world is an amazing opportunity at such a young age and I want to learn, grow and develop a lot. I feel like Chelsea is such an amazing environment to do that in.”

Thompson is Chelsea’s only piece of Transfer Deadline Day business. The club beat the clock and completed the deal just hours before the closure of the summer transfer window.
