Chelsea announce the signing of Alyssa Thompson

Chelsea have announced the signing of American forward Alyssa Thompson on a five-year deal.

In a move that went down to the wire, Thompson has at last been unveiled as a Chelsea player and will wear the number 12 shirt this season.

The Blues are reportedly paying NWSL side Angel City FC £1.1 million ($1.5 million) for the 20-year-old, a fee that would have been a world record a few months ago.

"Chelsea is such an amazing club, one of the best in the world," the USWNT star said.

"Being able to play with players that are the best in the world is an amazing opportunity at such a young age and I want to learn, grow and develop a lot. I feel like Chelsea is such an amazing environment to do that in."

Reigning champions Chelsea kick off the 2025/26 WSL season later this evening when they host Manchester City.
