In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Chelsea are in the running to land Al-Hilal forward Darwin Nunez. It has been claimed that the Blues would have to rival Newcastle United in the race to sign the Uruguay international in this summer transfer window.

Nunez’s Impressive Numbers In Saudi Football

Nunez enjoyed a good run of form for Al-Hilal in the previous campaign when he put in a handful of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Uruguayan striker registered nine goals and picked up five assists in 24 matches for the Saudi outfit last season across multiple competitions.

The 26-year-old is currently one of the best forwards in the Saudi Pro League. Hence, it makes sense for the Blues to offer him an escape route back to the Premier League in this summer transfer period.

Nunez is under contract at Al-Hilal until the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for Chelsea to recruit him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

What Will Nunez Add To Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso’s Team?

Nunez has got the pace to cause a lot of problems for his marker in the final third. He can be a decent goal-getter up top when he is playing with confidence on the field and is quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

The Uruguayan sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net. Nunez is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League from his time at Liverpool and won’t take much time to settle into life at Chelsea.

Nunez would add more firepower to Xabi Alonso’s frontline. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the West London club.

At 26, Nunez has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Blues to consider in this summer transfer window. He will also help Chelsea compete across all fronts in the coming years. Thus, Alonso would be wise to move in for Nunez before the end of this transfer window.
