In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Lens youngster Mezian Mesloub. It has been mentioned that the Blues would have to compete with Manchester United, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco in the race to sign the Portuguese playmaker.

Mesloub’s Impressive Rise In French Football

Mesloub has come through the youth ranks of Lens and deserves a ton of credit for breaking into their senior team recently. The 16-year-old has already made five senior appearances for the French club so far, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in the process.

The Portuguese talent is currently one of the most gifted young playmakers in Ligue 1. Hence, it is no surprise that the Blues have set their sights on him.

His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Chelsea to land him on the cheap next year.

Chelsea Are Keeping Tabs On Mesloub: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Mesloub is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He has the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can shoot the ball with power from long range.

The Portuguese talent can contribute by scoring and creating the odd goal for his side. Mesloub mainly functions as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to get a deal over the line next year.

Mesloub would add a lot of quality to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s frontline in the long run. He is already good enough to serve as a good rotational piece in the London club’s squad.

At 16, Mesloub has the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each season. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the long term, so Alonso should focus on getting him on board soon.
